Marketers trust their metrics. Engagement, sentiment, share of voice – these numbers guide strategy, budget, and the way a brand reads its own health.
But what happens when the baseline you’re tracking against is an illusion?
That trust can now be a major liability. AI-driven narrative attacks have gotten fast enough, low cost enough, and convincing enough to fabricate the precise signals your team relies on. From a stock price sliding in lockstep with a coordinated pile-on of pretend profiles, to fabricated stories engineered to seem like a real pattern, these aren’t hypotheticals. They are recent, real, and geared toward brands that never saw them coming.
Cyabra’s recent analyses highlight just how easily authentic discourse is hijacked:
- Spotify’s Logo Redesign: When Spotify launched a latest logo to mark its twentieth anniversary, negative reactions were swiftly amplified by coordinated actors. Cyabra found that almost 23% of the profiles driving the negative discourse were inauthentic. These inauthentic accounts generated over 13.6 million potential views, using viral hashtags to show a brand update into a massive reputational event.
- Financial Market Manipulation: Between 2024 and 2025, inauthentic stock manipulation discourse increased by 4 percentage points, accompanied by a massive 50.8% surge in engagement. In the case of Berkshire Hathaway, inauthentic profiles grew to encompass 35% of the general conversation in 2025, intermittently overtaking real users to artificially shape market perception with “fear of missing out” messaging.
- The 2026 World Cup: Global cultural events are prime targets. Cyabra’s evaluation revealed that 18.3% of profiles driving World Cup ticket resale conversations were inauthentic. In discussions actively soliciting ticket resales, inauthentic participation skyrocketed to 47%, deploying coordinated networks to funnel users toward fraudulent web sites.
This category of threat finally has a name: Narrative Intelligence.
Gartner formally defined it in June 2026 in its first-ever Emerging Market Quadrant for Narrative Intelligence, naming Cyabra a Market Shaper. It’s a threat most marketing teams still don’t have any framework for, and one we imagine deserves the very same urgency as a cybersecurity breach. You can download the total Gartner report here.
Our AI-powered platform analyzes billions of public interactions in real time to catch these attacks before they hijack your brand’s narrative.
