With the power to direct the complete shopping experience every step of the way in which, Target customers can completely control their purchasing decision, with AI only providing suggestions and proposals. According to Target, “AI makes it easy – offering ideas, curating selections and making a seamless transaction.”

AI platforms shaping consumer experiences
Through Google Search, shoppers can find and buy Target products directly via Google’s AI-driven search tools, without visiting Target’s website. This has change into available because of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard developed by industry leaders, including Google and Target, subsequently enabling AI agents to support online shopping experiences. Essentially, UCP builds a “common language” that AI systems and agents can use together, thus streamlining the buying process.
Ashish Gupta, vice chairman and general manager of Merchant Shopping at Google, added, “We’re excited to work alongside Target and others to co-develop the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) and enable customers to purchase their favorite items directly on Google Search, including AI Mode, and the Gemini app.”
With a rise of virtually 400% in AI-driven traffic to retail sites overall, Target’s surge of two,000% highlights the growing importance of AI-powered shopping experiences. AI is becoming a brand new shopping companion, helping consumers discover and buy products more efficiently than ever before.
